July 27-29

Let's Go Buggy!

If insects are your thing, you might enjoy scorpions, brown recluse spiders, fire ants, and termites. Most people think they are household pests, but other believe they taste delicious. Insects are a good source of protein. More than 1,400 varieties are eaten regularly everywhere on earth aside from the United States, Canada and Western Europe. We'll make a non-edible craft that everyone will fancy.

August 3-5

Sights and Sounds

Feet that make no noise, eyes that see in the dark, ears that hear the winds and sharp white teeth...quickness of eye and quickness of foot are essential to spot the rush of the frightened peacock and the terrible charge of the buffalo-herd. From the snake's savage hiss to the lion's thundering roars, animal sounds must be easily detected to survive. You'll be able to use your fun craft to imitate the corresponding sounds of the jungle.

August 10-12

Slithery Snakes

Something flinches a little in the dust – a peculiar rocking, swaying motion... be steady, be cautious! If there's one thing the jungle has plenty of, it's snakes! Coral snakes, pit vipers, cobras and the dreaded anaconda, a massive constrictor snake, are just a few of the frog hunting serpents you can come across. Literary celebrities of the slithery kind include Crictor and Verdi. Our cuddly craft is worn around the neck in India.

17-19

Spin a Spider Web

A long time ago, when spiders moved from the water to the land, they started making silk to trap insects that provided them nutrition. Webs allow a spider to catch prey without having to expend energy. However, constructing the web is hard work. Cobwebs are used on wounds and cuts and seem to help healing and reduce bleeding. We'll read about Anansi, a trickster character popular in West African and Caribbean folklore, and end with a delightful non-sticky craft.

The Jungle Book 2 (rated G)

Mowgli feels out of place in his new home, despite the efforts of his friend Shanti and his new little brother. So when Baloo arrives for a visit, the man-cub takes the opportunity to return for some fun in the jungle. However, Shanti, believing her friend was taken, follows them. With Shere Khan still on the hunt for him, Mowgli must protect himself and the ones he cares about from the dangers ahead. The new adventures make him reconsider his decisions and decide which he wants more - a life of laid back hilarity with Baloo in the jungle or a simpler existance in the man village with Shanti.
